Everything you need to know about Liquid Cannabis

What is liquid marijuana?

Well if you’re familiar with bud behavior then you’ll know that we’re intrigued by herbal supplements like CBD and Kratom.

We’re also excited about other more mainstream supplements like Chlorella.

We’ve been looking into all of the weird and wonderful ways of getting the most from the cannabis plant.

In this article we’ve come across a bit of a curveball.

A liquid form of cannabis that can be a natural or a synthetic substance or sometimes not even real marijuana at all…

Confused? Keep Reading!

In recent years, liquid cannabis has become one of the more common ways to consume cannabis.

Vaping has become the new ‘cool’ way to inhale.

In this article I’m going to try and explain what liquid marijuana is.

You’ll also find out how it is consumed and discover a cheeky liquid marijuana drink recipe.

What is liquid marijuana?

Liquid marijuana is a very potent form of cannabis.

It contains dramatically higher concentrations of THC than that which is normally found in the marijuana leaf.

The liquid is extracted from the marijuana buds before going through the cooking process, often using alcohol, to reach a liquid form.

The methods used in the process are referred to as;

the cold method, the room temperature and the hot method or green dragon method.

During the cooking process, the cannabinoids are extracted from the cannabis plant.

These free cannabinoids are then absorbed by the alcohol and remaining plant matter is removed.

Liquid cannabis can contain up to 90% THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis.

This is a crazy amount, considering that recreational cannabis that’s smoked would typically contain 12-25% THC.

Consuming cannabis with such high content of THC can put you in serious danger.

Liquid cannabis created in this way is commonly referred to as tincture of cannabis and presents as a cloudy green colour.

It is consumed via dropper bottle or vape pen.

What is synthetic cannabis?

Synthetic cannabinoids have come onto the market in recent years, wrongly labelled as synthetic cannabis or ‘fake weed’.

You may know one of these products which has the street name of ‘spice.’

Although there are other slang names including the more simple liquid THC or liquid pot and the more ridiculous…mayzack?!.

These synthetic agents act on the same cannabinoid receptors in the brain as cannabis.

However, evidence suggests that they are much more deadly.

Synthetic cannabis products are sometimes sold as incense.

This is a way for vendors to get around the drug laws and allow online retailers to distribute their products.

In contrast to authentic liquid marijuana, the synthetic versions are colourless.

2 common ways to consume liquid marijauna

  1. Vape Pens took the world by storm in the mid 2010’s. Consuming liquid cannabis and synthetic cannabinoids through vape juice is by far the most popular method of use.
  1. A lesser-used consumption method is through a dropper bottle. Check out our deep dive into the use of cannabis tincture.

What is a liquid marijuana cocktail?

Remember when I said in the intro that some references to liquid cannabis actually have no reference to actual cannabis?

Well strangely enough the liquid marijuana drinks below have exactly zero cannabis.

They are so called because of their murky, green appearance.

Although it doesn’t take Tom Cruise to work out that adding a couple of tincture drops to the cocktail mixture would complete the 420 feel.

Let’s take a look at two amazing liquid marijuana drinks as described by The Tipsy Bartender.

Tasty green cocktail recipe mixes

Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you the Liquid Marijuana Cocktail.

This tasty green cocktail recipe mixes up spiced rum, melon liqueur, coconut rum, blue curacao, sweet & sour, and pineapple juice, and is garnished with a marijuana leaf-shaped pineapple slice to maximize all of that 420 mixed drink tastiness.

This particular Liquid Marijuana mixed drink recipe doesn’t contain any real marijuana or tincture of cannabis.

That being said, it’s still a fantastic drink that goes well with the 420 theme.

If you’re sticking to the non-cannabinoid cocktails then you’ll also probably like these too:

The Long Island Iced Tea, the Jäger Bomb, Oil Spill Shots, and the Sour Green Apple.

This tasty green 420 drink recipe mixes up spiced rum, melon liqueur, coconut rum, blue curacao, sweet & sour, and pineapple juice.

In a cocktail shaker with ice cubes, combine equal parts spiced rum, melon liqueur, coconut rum, sweet & sour, blue curaçao, splash of pineapple juice and a pineapple slice.

Shake well.

Strain mix into a shot glass and drink it down in one.

Dangers of liquid marijuana

The biggest danger in both synthetic cannabinoids and concentrated cannabis tincture is the high levels of THC.

Marijuana leaves contain 12-25 % THC, concentrated forms may contain anywhere from 50-90 %.

Because the products are unregulated and either produced in unsanctioned laboratories or at home it is impossible to know the precise concentration in any dose.

In synthetic forms, it is hard to tell whether there are other potentially dangerous chemicals or harmful substances in the mix.

Higher concentrations of THC can make synthetic marijuana much more addictive.

Spice has taken over heroin as the most prolific drug in UK prisons.

Synthetic cannabinoids, when abused, can cause;

  • Tachycardia
  • Hypertension
  • Hallucinations
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Seizures
  • Memory changes
  • Somnolence
  • Respiratory depression
  • Acute anxiety
  • Psychosis
  • Death

Basically, steer clear!

If your rationale for using cannabis is that it’s natural and harmless then stick to CBD!
